Relationship with other animals:
- Giant Pandas are very solitary animals, they interact with other Pandas only during breeding season, when they give birth, and raise their young.
- Panda cubs stay with their mother for up to three years before they are left on their own, therefore meaning an adult female panda can raise only five to eight cubs in a lifetime.
- Breeding occurs only once a year from March to May. Female pandas are in heat only from 2 to 7 days, during this time they mate with several different males, as you can see in the picture to the left. After the female's egg has been fertilized, it divides a few times, then it floats free in the uterus for several weeks and does not develop further. In June or July, the embryo attaches to the uterine wall and develops. Young are born 8 weeks later, from August to September.
- Average pregnancy period last about 135 days
- Female pandas deliver 1 to 2 cubs in a rock cavity or hollow tree.
- Pandas in the wild interact differently than pandas in captivity, while pandas are in captivity they like to play with each other and develop close relationships with their caregiver.
Communities:
- Pandas help their community by spreading bamboo seeds as well as facilitating growth of vegetation.
Ecosystem:
- Pandas also help their ecosystem by spreading bamboo seeds.
- Since Pandas are endangered species they attract a lot of tourism which helps to feed the economy of the people who live in the Upper Yangtze Basin
Biome:
- Pandas help their biome by distributing the bamboo seeds which causes new bamboo trees to grow, allowing other pandas and different species to be able to eat this allows the population of pandas to survive longer, and also by not letting the forest to die.
Relationship with other animals:
- Although pandas mainly eat bamboo they are still bears making them carnivores, therefore they still prey on some animals these animals include fish, rodents, and other small animals.
- Pandas are at the top of the food chain, but this does not mean that they do not have any predators. These predators include jackals, snow leopards, and the yellow-throated marten (a relative of the weasel that sometimes eats giant panda cubs)
- Pandas are very peaceful animals, but if the time come to defend themselves they will not hesitate. Giant pandas will display aggression by lowering their heads and staring directly at the opponent. they use physical strength and strong jaw muscles and large molar teeth to defend themselves. They also use natural skills such as climbing and swimming.
